Lady Evangels Drop 87-68 Exhibition Contest at Lubbock Christian

Lubbock, Texas -- The Lubbock Christian University Lady Chaps grabbed an early lead and never looked back in an 87-68 win over the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels in an exhibition contest for the Lady Evangels today (Nov. 22) at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.

Leading 15-10 with 13:06 left in the first half, LCU, an NCAA D-II school out of the Heartland Conference, scored seven straight to push the lead to double-figures and then used another 7-0 spurt to balloon the lead to 20 at the 6:24 mark.

After the Lady Chaps took a 48-29 lead into the break, the Lady Evangels fought back in the early portion of the second half and came within 55-42 on a jumper by Alexia Kelley with 14:18 remaining.

But LCU quickly answered with a 9-2 run to once go again up by 20 and shortly after put it away as a jumper from Haley Burton capped a 12-1 burst that gave the Lady Chaps their biggest lead of the game at 81-53 with 5:17 left.

Shakayla Love led the Lady Evangels (4-1) with 12 points and Ashlee Ferguson had 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

Burton led four Lady Chaps in double-figure scoring with 15 points and also had a game-high seven assists. Kellyn Schneider recorded a game-high 16 boards for LCU (2-1).

The rebounds overall were even at 47-47 but the Lady Chaps' defense stifled the Lady Evangels into shooting only 29.7 percent (22-of-74) and only a 19.2 percent (5-of-26) clip from three-point distance.

The Lady Evangels will next return home to host York College (Neb.) Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 25) at 3 p.m. inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
