Evangels Notch Huge Road Win at Langston, 77-66

Langston, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels garnered another big road win by winning 77-66 at Langston University tonight (Nov. 25) in Langston, Okla.

The win moves the Evangels to 7-1 on the season, their best start since joining the NAIA.  MACU is also now 5-1 away from home this year.

The Evangels were down 37-34 at the half and fell behind by five early in the second before a basket from Jerrick Massenburge and a three-point by Reggie Davis tied the score at 39-39.

MACU then forged ahead on consecutive buckets from Massenburge and Semar Farris that put the Evangels in front 43-41 at the 18:00 mark.

After threes by Landon Gray and Karon Abraham put Langston back up by four, the Evangels made their move as Farris scored nine points to power a 14-2 surge that gave MACU its largest lead of the game at 57-49 with 12:52 left.

The Lions then fought back to within six on two occasions, but each time the Evangels had an answer, with the last time being when scores by Massenburge and Davis capped a 7-2 run that stretched the lead to double-figures at 66-55 with 7:40 left.

The Evangels kept the Lions at bay from that point, maintaining at least a seven-point lead and building the lead as high as 13 on a basket by Davis with 1:01 left.

MACU started the game hot, twice leading by seven in the opening six minutes before the Lions came back with a 10-2 run to take their first lead of the game at the 10:18 mark of the first half.

The Lions led by as much as eight but the Evangels responded as five straight points from Jarius Wilson started a 10-1 run that gave MACU a 29-28 lead.

Langston then scored five straight to regain the edge and led 37-34 at the break.

Davis paced the Evangels with a double-double of 19 points and equaled his career-high with 11 rebounds.  Farris also scored 19 along with a game-high five assists. Massenburge also scored in double-figures with 12 points.

Abraham led the Lions with a game-high 20 points, while Terrell Jones also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards.

After the Lions shot 44 percent (11-of-25) in the first half, the Evangels put the clamps down defensively in the second by limiting Langston to only a 31 percent (9-of-29) clip in the second.

The Evangels will next face another NCAA D-II opponent next Monday night (Dec. 1) at the University of Central Oklahoma.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Edmond, Okla.

MACU has already defeated three NCAA D-II teams this season, with two coming over UCO's fellow MIAA conference members.
