Lady Evangels Fall 71-54 in Exhibition at Oklahoma Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY -- McKenzie Stanford scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Oklahoma Christian University Lady Eagles to a 71-54 win over the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels in an exhibition game tonight (Dec. 12) for the Lady Evangels in OKC.

The Lady Eagles, an NCAA D-II program formerly of the Sooner Athletic Conference, took control early by jumping out to a quick 14-1 lead six minutes into the contest.

MACU fought back with an 8-1 spurt to come within 23-17 before OC answered with an 8-2 run to push the lead back to 12 at the 7:11 mark.

OC went on to a 36-27 lead at the break.

Much like the opening half, the Lady Eagles started the second half strong by scoring the first eight points of the second half to take their largest lead to that point of 44-27.

The Lady Eagles kept the Lady Evangels at bay from that point, maintaining at least a 13-point lead the rest of the way while building the edge as high as 22.

Ashlee Ferguson led the Lady Evangels (6-2) with 18 points and Alexia Kelley scored 10 along with a game-high eight rebounds.

Stanford was the lone Lady Eagle in double-figure scoring, but OC boasted three players with at least eight points. Daisha Gonzaque recorded a game-high seven steals for the Lady Eagles (3-5).

The rebounds were even at 37-37, with the Lady Evangels holding a 16-13 edge on the offensive glass.

The Lady Evangels will play another exhibition game with an NCAA D-II opponent at McMurry University Monday afternoon (Dec. 15) at 2 p.m. in Abilene, Texas.
