Plainview, Texas -- Christian Hill gave the Mid-America Christian University Evangels a chance to win the series finale with a solid effort on the mound, but the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers found a way to win 3-1 today (Mar. 22) in Plainview, Texas.
The Pioneers remained unbeaten in the Sooner Athletic Conference with a 12-0 league record.
Hill lasted 7 1/3 innings and allowed only three runs and struck out four.
But he was bested by the Pioneers' Taylor Bridges, who tossed a complete game and gave up only one run on five hits with four strikeouts.
The Pioneers jumped out to a lead with a run in the third before the Evangels answered right back when Daniel Thompson doubled and scored on a single by Chevin Noone in the top of the fourth.
WBU then promptly grabbed the edge again on an RBI single by Colton Palmer in the bottom of the fourth.
Bridges blanked the Evangels from that point and a successful squeeze bunt by Palmer in the eighth inning gave the Pioneers a valuable insurance tally.
Matt Cruz had two hits on the day for the Evangels, going 2-of-3 at the dish.
The Evangels will next begin a three-game series with a single game at home against St. Gregory's University Thursday afternoon (Mar. 27) at 1 p.m. at James Curtis Field.
