OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels' bats came alive in the second game to the tune of 11 runs as the Evangels settled for a split with the McPherson College Bulldogs with a 11-7 victory after the Bulldogs rallied for a 11-8 win in the opener Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 25) at James Curtis Field.
Ryan Moesley powered the Evangels' offensive attack in the nightcap with six RBI in three hits at the plate. The six runs driven in are tied for the second most in a game by an Evangel since joining the NAIA.
After Zach Wilson homered to lead off the first inning to ignite a two-run frame, Moesley answered with a three-run double to fuel a four-run second inning that put the Evangels on top. Daniel Thompson also had an RBI in the inning.
Moesley kept it going in the third with a two-run single that keyed a three-run third that stretched the lead to five runs.
The Evangels had to hang on though as the Bulldogs plated three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to come within a run at 8-7.
MACU then tallied three valuable insurance runs on a two-run single by Z Tipton and an RBI hit from Christian Hill in the bottom of the sixth.
Hill went 2-of-3 at the plate for the Evangels in the second game with an RBI, while Matt Cruz was 1-of-3 with a run driven in.
Aaron Conway pitched 4 1/3 to get the win and Dylan Shatswell came on for the final 1 1/3 and blanked the Bulldogs to close out the victory.
The Evangels jumped on top in the opener when Dustin Carlsward singled home two runs and Thompson drove in another to make it 3-0 in the third.
After a two-run double by Moesley put the Evangels ahead 5-1, Dorian Shelton keyed a six-run sixth for the Bulldogs with a two-run single that gave McPherson a two-run lead.
The Evangels came right back in the bottom of the inning as a two-run double by Thompson and an RBI single by Logan Glasgow put MACU back in front 8-7 heading to the seventh.
But the Bulldogs had the final rally as Andrew Pina hit a two-run single to put McPherson back on top and the Bulldogs scored two more runs in the seventh to add to their lead.
Josh Grant then pitched the ninth for the Bulldogs and with the tying run at the plate, induced a strikeout to close out the win.
The Evangels will next begin a three-game series against St. Gregory's University beginning with a single game Thursday afternoon (Mar. 27) at 1 p.m.
