Evangels Split with St. Gregory's to Win Series

Shawnee, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels split a doubleheader with the St. Gregory's University Cavaliers today (Mar. 29) at Bill Nicklas Field in Shawnee, Okla. to win the weekend series two games to one after winning the series opener Thursday afternoon (Mar. 27) 6-1.

The Evangels won the first game 7-1 behind Christian Hill's complete game effort.  Hill allowed three runs and only one earned tally over seven innings to get the victory.

A.J. Wilson singled home Daniel Thompson in the first inning to put the Evangels on the board before MACU exploded for five runs in the third inning.

Wilson again came through with an RBI single before Z Tipton drove home two runs with an RBI single that made it 4-0.

Tipton then came around to score on an RBI triple by Matt Cruz before Cruz scored the fifth run of the inning on an error.

After the Cavaliers fought back with three runs in the fourth, the Evangels added an insurance run in the sixth when Chevin Noone hit an RBI single to score Thompson.

Thompson paced the Evangels' offensive attack in the opener by going 4-of-5 at the plate.  Dustin Carlsward continued his torrid hitting pace with three hits in five at-bats.

The Cavaliers took the nightcap 8-1 and wasted little time in getting going as Landon Chapman hit a two-run single to key a five-run first inning.

The Evangels got on the board when Cruz doubled home Ryan Moseley in the third, but the Cavaliers answered back on a two-run double by Fabian Reza in the fourth and SGU added another run in the sixth when Reza drove in his third run of the game.

Cruz had three of the Evangels' five hits in the second game by going 3-of-4 at the dish.

Chris Sutton limited the Evangels to only one run and struck out five in a complete game effort for the Cavaliers.

The Evangels will continue action in the SAC by opening up a three-game series at Southwestern Christian University next Thursday afternoon (Apr. 3) at 2 p.m. in Bethany, Okla.
