Evangels Ink Northwood Standout Jerrick Massenburge for Next Season

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels have already started building for the 2014-15 season by signing former Northwood University standout Jerrick Massenburge today (Apr. 11).

The Evangels got an up close look at Massenburge last season competing for the NU Knights of the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Massenburge ranked third on the Knights in scoring last year with 12.9 points per game and was second on the team in rebounding (4.9 rpg). He also shot a respectable 40.4 percent (23-of-57) from three-point distance.

Against MACU, Massenburge scored 22.5 ppg along with 6.5 rpg as the Knights split the two meetings with the Evangels.

In high school, Massenburge played at Kilgore HS in Kilgore, Texas, where he was selected as the team Offensive MVP and earned All-East Texas and first-team All-District honors.

"I am very excited to have Jerrick as part of our basketball program," MACU head coach Willie Holley said.

"Jerrick is a young man with strong Christian character and a very talented player.  He will be able to run the floor and spread the defense with his outside shot and he also does the blue collar work on the defensive end and on the boards.

Massenburge is joining a program with high expectations coming into next season.

In his 41st season at the helm, Holley guided the Evangels to their best SAC finish as an NAIA program by coming in tied for second with a 12-8 league record this past season.

After coming up one spot short of their first-ever NAIA National Tournament berth, the Evangels made their 23rd appearance in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament in Winona Lake, Ind.

He is the son of Sharon Massenburge and plans to major in Business at MACU.
