Drovers Slip by Evangels on Walk-Off Hit

Chickasha, Okla. -- The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers snapped a 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Mid-America Christian University Evangels 2-1 in the first of a three-game series today (Apr. 17) at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla.

The loss nullified a solid performance by MACU starter Christian Hill, who went 8 2/3 innings with only one earned run allowed with three strikeouts.

Josh Terrell got the best of the pitcher's duel for the Drovers by tossing a complete game and allowing no earned runs with nine strikeouts.

Spenser Mailman scored the first run of the game in the fifth by singling to lead off the inning, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt and then crossing the plate on two passed balls to put USAO on top 1-0.

The Evangels tied the game in the seventh when Z Tipton reached on an error and was chased home on a successful bunt single by Daniel Thompson.

It remained a 1-1 gridlock until Ryan Wescott doubled home Blake Scannell with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Drovers the walk-off win.

Thompson had three hits on the day for the Evangels (12-26, 7-15 SAC) and A.J. Wilson went 2-of-4.

Eddie Malone collected two hits for USAO (20-20, 10-12 SAC).

The Evangels will now host the Drovers in a twinbill Saturday afternoon (Apr. 19) beginning at 1 p.m. at James Curtis Field.
