Evangels Hang On for 11-9 Win Over Friends

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels defeated the Friends University Falcons for the second time this season, hanging on for an 11-9 victory today (Apr. 22) at James Curtis Field.

The Falcons received votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll for the second straight week after being ranked No. 23 just two weeks ago.

The Evangels had to hang on as the Falcons scored five runs in the sixth to come within a run after MACU had built a 7-1 lead.

MACU responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but the Falcons again scored a run in the both the seventh and eighth innings to make it a 10-8 game.

Victor Cuevas then singled home Logan Glasgow for a valuable insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.

Things again got dicey for the Evangels in the ninth, as Friends scored a run on an RBI double by Taylor Douglas and had the tying runs in scoring position with no outs.

But Mat Owen came on in relief and retired the next three hitters to get out of the jam and pick up the save.

Wyatt Glasgow started for the Evangels (13-28) and turned in a solid 5 1/3 innings. Glasgow allowed only three earned runs and struck out six. Hunter Boelte relieved Glasgow and went 2 2/3 innings and gave up four earned runs and struck out one.

Cuevas and Taylor Daniels each drove in two runs, with Chevin Noone homering and scoring three runs.  Glasgow went 2-of-4 and also scored three times.

Douglas went 3-of-5 for the Falcons (31-19) and Andrew Waltenburg drove in three runs.

The Evangels will next begin a three-game series at home against No. 14-ranked Oklahoma City University Thursday afternoon (Apr. 24) at 3 p.m.
