OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University men's basketball program has added another player for the upcoming 2014-15 season in Chris Runnels, a transfer from Richland College.
Runnels joins teammate Mister Carroll, who also played at Richland College and has signed on with the Evangels for next season.
A 6-6 forward from Kilgore, Texas, Runnels was a second-team All-Conference and Honorable Mention performer competing for the Richland Thunder Ducks.
Runnels played in high school for the Shoemaker High Greywolves and his honors included Newcomer of the Year, an All-Area selection and being named the District Defensive Player of the Year.
"I am very excited to have Chris join our program for next season," MACU head coach Willie Holley said.
"He is 6'6 and very active for his size. He can run the floor and finish strong as well as rebound the ball with authority. He is also very long and can block shots."
In his 41st season at the helm, Holley guided the Evangels to their best SAC finish as an NAIA program by coming in tied for second with a 12-8 league record this past season.
After coming up one spot short of their first-ever NAIA National Tournament berth, the Evangels made their 23rd appearance in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament in Winona Lake, Ind.
Chris is the son of Elizabeth and Fredric Runnels and plans to major in Business at MACU.
