Evangels Fall Again at No. 14 Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Brad Wieck struck out 16 batters and gave up only one hit in pitching the No. 14-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars to a 15-0 win over the Mid-America Christian University Evangels tonight (Apr. 25) at Jim Wade Stadium on the OCU campus.

The Evangels remain in eighth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference and control their own destiny for the eighth and final spot in the SAC Tournament next weekend.  MACU can clinch a berth with a win tomorrow over OCU or a St. Gregory's University loss at No. 1-ranked Oklahoma Baptist University.

MACU didn't pick up its first hit until the seventh inning, when Dustin Carlsward singled with one out.

After Robert Santana retired the Stars in order in the first, OCU picked up three runs in the second on only one hit, aided by two passed balls, two walks and a wild pitch.

Connor Lynch hit a two-run homer in the third and OCU added another run in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead.

Forrest Smith then homered to lead off the sixth and a pair of errors led to five more runs in the inning for the Stars that put it away.

Santana lasted five innings, giving up 12 runs but was charged with only five earned runs.  He struck out eight and walked six.

Wyatt Glasgow got in the game in the sixth for the Evangels, striking out the only batter he faced.

The Evangels will host the Stars in the series finale tomorrow afternoon (Apr. 26) at noon at James Curtis Field.
