Carlsward, Owen Receive NCCAA Baseball Scholar Athlete Honor

Greenville, SC -- Mid-America Christian University senior outfielder Dustin Carlsward and senior pitcher Mat Owen have each earned National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Scholar Athlete honors, the organization has announced.

To be eligible for this prestigious award, the student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.4 grade-point-average and be at least a junior in academic standing.

Carlsward posted a 3.47 GPA in Business Administration, while Owen has a 3.88 GPA in Psychology.

A native of Stillwater, Okla., Carlsward put together a solid senior campaign at the plate.  He led the Evangels in hitting (.367) and hits (44) while tying for the team-lead with 21 RBI.  He also ranked second on the team in both slugging percentage (.458) and on-base percentage (.424).

Owen, a native of Bethany, Okla., pitched 24 innings out of the bullpen this season and struck out 17 with one save in 14 appearances.

The duo helped the Evangels make significant progress in head coach Mike Brown's third season at the helm by winning 14 games to nearly triple their win total from the previous year.
