OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian University head coach Marcus Moeller has announced the signing of 5'11 forward Lakota Thompson for the upcoming 2014-15 campaign.
Thompson comes to MACU from Wellston High School in Wellston, OK. Thomson's athletic honors and awards during her four years at Wellston include AGRA All-tournament team, OBU All-tournament team, Tri-country All-tournament team, VYPE Magazine OK Top 100 and Little All-City. She also led her team in scoring and FG%. Thompson spent her summers under the tutelage of Shane Wagner as a member of the Oklahoma Shock AAU program.
She also received multiple off the court awards for her academic prowess while at Wellston High School. In addition to being a member of National Honor's Society, the Principal's and Superintendent's Honor Roll, she also received Academic Excellence marks in Science, English, Technology, Engineering, Algebra II, Math Analysis, Oklahoma History and Spanish II.
"We're very excited to be able to sign another quality high school player from the state of Oklahoma," Moeller said. "Lakota will give us good depth in the post. We really believe Lakota's best basketball is ahead of her and she will be able to really grow and learn by playing with and against such great players. Lakota will control how good she wants to be. She has a great opportunity to come in and learn from her teammates and the tremendous post players in our league. If she commits to the process of progress and growth, she has a very bright four-year future wearing the red and black. We're excited she chose us!"
Thompson will be joining a team that won its most games overall (18) and conference games (11) under first-year coach Moeller since joining the NAIA back in 2007.
