OKLAHOMA CITY -- Mid-America Christian University women's basketball head coach Marcus Moeller has announced the addition of 6'2 power forward Alexia Kelley for the upcoming 2014-15 campaign.?
Kelley, a Dallas, TX native, prepped at Skyline High School.? Kelley finished her high school career ranked by ESPN HoopGurlz as the 2010 class' 31st ranked power forward in the country.?
After averaging 12.7 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.1 blocked shots as a junior, Kelley also put up impressive numbers as a senior, scoring 10.3 points, pulling down 8.5 rebounds and blocking 3.3 shots. Skyline went 31-3 during her senior season.?
In two years at the JUCO level playing at Midland College and Weatherford JC, Kelley accumulated 519 points, 324 rebounds, and 84 blocked shots while shooting 45% from the floor and 66% from the free throw line.? She combined to have a 46-14 record as a junior college athlete while competing in the 2013 NJCAA Division I National Tournament.?
Kelley's junior season was spent at Wiley College where she was the starting post player the last 16 games of the year on a team that won the RRAC, led the nation in scoring, steals and blocks per game and also finished the year 30-5 before falling in the NAIA Division 1 National Semi-final by two in overtime to Freed Hardman University.? Kelley, who averaged 9.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per contest during her Junior campaign, had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the national tournament opening round victory against the University of Mobile.
"We are very excited to add Lex to our family!" Moeller said.?
"The thing that initially struck me is that her heart is so huge.? She genuinely loves people and cares about the people around her.? To be able to add a player with the physical presence on the floor that Lex possesses is huge for our team.? Her biggest asset on the court is her combination of size and mobility.? She can really affect the game on both ends of the court and is a tenacious rebounder and has great timing as a shot blocker."?
"We also love that Lex is a proven winner.? Her record as a college basketball player is 76-19 (including two national tournaments) and if you throw in her senior year of high school, she is 107-22 in her last four years as a basketball player.? Coming from successful programs and proving that she can play a huge part in the success of the team is very impressive.? We really believe the Lord wanted Lex to come to MACU.? She is going to grow so much as a person this year.? I'm excited to watch the Lord work in her life!"
