OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Culver-Stockton College Wildcats scored a run in the 10th inning to snap a 4-4 tie and went on to a 5-4 win over the Mid-America Christian University Evangels today (Feb. 20) at James Curtis Field. Earlier in the day, the Evangels were defeated 14-1 by the Briar Cliff University Chargers.
The Evangels (6-6) had tied the score in the seventh when pinch-hitter Kevin Jones reached first on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded that plated Chevin Noone.
The game remained tied until the Wildcats broke through in the 10th when Jake Pott scored the go-ahead run on a two-out wild pitch.
Daniel Thompson went 4-of-5 for the Evangels, with Logan Glasgow going 2-of-4 with one RBI.
After allowing three runs in the first, Christian Hill settled in and allowed only one run over the next six innings.
In the first game of the day, the Chargers took control with five runs in the first inning, capped by a two-run double by Alex Colegrove. A pair of errors led to three of the five runs scored in the frame being unearned.
The Evangels got on the board in the bottom of the first when Thompson doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Glasgow, but the Chargers went back to work with two in the third and then put it away with three in the fourth and four more in the fifth.
Colegrove, Handcox Jr. and Darrell Wilson each drove in three runs to power the Chargers' hitting attack.
Adam Alexander went 4.2 innings with one run allowed to get the win for the Chargers.
The Evangels will now turn around and play Culver-Stockton again tomorrow at 11 a.m. followed by another matchup with Briar Cliff at 1 p.m.
