Hill, Abbott Deliver Solid Pitching Performances and Glasgow's Walk-Off Hit Caps Evangels Sweep of Graceland

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Down 2-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh, Logan Glasgow came through with a clutch, walk-off two-run single to give the Mid-America Christian University Evangels a doubleheader sweep of the Graceland University Yellow Jackets and their first 3-0 start since joining the NAIA in 2008.  The Evangels also took the first game from the Yellow Jackets 6-1.

The Evangels were held in check for six innings against Graceland starter Edwin Montanez in the nightcap, scoring only one run on two hits and striking out six times.

The Yellow Jackets then summoned Mike Middleton in to close the game in the seventh and Matt Cruz promptly reached on a walk and was chased to third on a double by Brandon Bordonano.

After Middleton retired the next two hitters, Daniel Thompson drew a walk to keep the game alive and Glasgow delivered a bloop single to center that scored Cruz and pinch runner Kody Jones that won it for the Evangels.

Christian Hill started the nightcap and was brilliant for the Evangels, going the full seven innings and allowing only one earned run with six strikeouts and no walks.

The Evangels also got a solid pitching effort from Zach Abbott in the opener.  Abbott lasted 5.1 innings and gave up only one run and struck out six and walked three.

An RBI groundout by A.J. Wilson got the Evangels on the board in the first before the Yellow Jackets scored a run in the second to tie the score.

Thompson then keyed a five-run explosion in the bottom of the second with a bases clearing three-run double.  Glasgow then singled home Thompson and scored on an RBI single by Wilson that finished the scoring.

That's all Abbott would need and Wyatt Glasgow came on with one out in the sixth and got the final six outs while allowing three hits and striking out two.

Thompson went 3-of-4 in the first game for the Evangels and Glasgow was 2-of-2.  Wilson also had two hits in his four at-bats with a pair of RBI.

The Evangels will wrap up the four-game series against the Yellow Jackets with another twin bill tomorrow (Feb. 7) at noon.
