Baseball Evangels Split Doubleheader with Graceland to Move to 4-1 on the Season

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels salvaged a split in the twinbill with the Graceland University Yellow Jackets today (Feb. 7) with a 7-5 victory in the second game after dropping the opener 4-1.

The nightcap was knotted 3-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth when yesterday's hero Logan Glasgow again came through with a two-run single to power a decisive four-run frame.  A third run scored on the play when a throwing error plated Daniel Thompson that made it a three-run Evangel lead.

Glasgow then scored the fourth run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk to Matt Cruz.

The Evangels (4-1) had to dodge trouble in the fifth, as the Yellow Jackets scored and brought the tying run to the plate with runners on second and third.  But head coach Mike Brown went to his bullpen and brought in David Pope to relieve starter Martin Nolasco and Pope rewarded him by inducing a groundout to get out of the inning.

Much like the fifth, the Yellow Jackets again plated a run in the sixth and had the tying runs on with the potential go-ahead run at the plate when Brown again summoned the bullpen and called on Wyatt Glasgow, who got a flyout to end the threat.

Glasgow remained in the game to pitch the seventh and when Alex Cuckovich singled Nate Goff to third and advanced to second on the throw to place the tying run in scoring position, he got a groundout to close out the win and earn the save.

Glasgow and Brandon Bordonaro each drove in two runs for the Evangels, while Cuckovich went 3-of-4 with two RBI for the Yellow Jackets.

Nolasco struck out seven in 4.2 innings of work for MACU, with three earned runs allowed on two hits.

The opener was scoreless into the third until Austin Allen capped a three-run inning with a two-run single that put the Yellow Jackets on top.

The Evangels answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on Reggie Lindsey's first-career RBI, a run-scoring single that scored Aaron Conway.

But that's all the Evangels could muster and the Yellow Jackets answered in the fourth on an RBI single by Goff.

Aaron Carroll started for MACU and gave up four runs and struck out three in four innings.  Zach Carley then came in and threw three scoreless frames with three strikeouts.

Dillon Stoner was solid on the hill for the Yellow Jackets, allowing only one unearned run in 5.1 innings.  Sean McGuire got the next two outs and Allen worked a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the save.

Thompson had two hits in four at-bats for the Evangels in the first game.

The Evangels will next play at Dallas Christian College on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 10) at 2 p.m.
