OKLAHOMA CITY -- A.J. Wilson's second homerun of the day came in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mid-America Christian University Evangels a 7-6 victory over the NCAA D-II Southwestern Oklahoma State University Bulldogs today (Mar. 17) at James Curtis Field.
The victory is the Evangels' fourth straight and moves them to .500 on the season at 11-11-1 overall.
Wilson's shot was a line drive with two out and on a 2-2 pitch that also scored Reggie Lindsey.
An earlier two-run homer by Wilson along with two RBI from Chevin Noone had helped the Evangels take a 5-2 lead after seven innings.
The Bulldogs rallied with three in the eighth, as an RBI double by Zach Barton made it a one-run game before a fielding error chased home the tying run.
Barton then singled home the go-ahead run in the ninth inning that gave SWOSU a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Wilson was 3-of-4 with four RBI on the day, while the Evangels also got two hits each from Noone, Logan Glasgow, Brandon Schoelkopf and Riley Barnum. Matt Cruz also drove in one run in the win.
Aaron Carroll started on the mound for the Evangels and turned in a solid outing, going six innings with two runs allowed and five strikeouts.
Wyatt Glasgow got the final out of the eighth and then worked the ninth to get the win. Glasgow allowed one run and struck out one.
The Evangels will look to keep the momentum going with a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series at Southwestern Assemblies of God University, starting Friday (Mar. 20) at 2 p.m. in Waxahachie, Texas.
