Hill Pitches Baseball Evangels to 6-2 Win to Salvage Split With SAGU

Waxahachie, Texas -- Christian Hill pitched seven solid innings to lead the Mid-America Christian University Evangels to a 6-2 victory in the second game of a doubleheader against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions today (Mar. 19) in Waxahachie, Texas.  The Lions took the opener 5-4 on a walk-off single by Bryant Threadgill.

The victory keeps the Evangels at .500 overall on the season at 12-12-1 overall.

The Evangels jumped on top in the second game with a pair of runs in the first as Daniel Thompson and Matt Henshall each singled to lead off the inning and eventually scored on passed balls by the catcher.

SAGU answered with two of their own in the second, one on an RBI single by pitcher Lance Marks and another due to an error that made it 2-2.

It remained 2-2 until the Evangels broke through with a decisive four-run seventh inning.

Riley Barnum got things started with a lead-off single and scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk to Logan Glasgow.  A.J. Wilson then singled home Daniel Thompson for the second run of the inning before a fielder's choice by Chevin Noone plated Tanner Ward for the third run of the inning.

Glasgow then finished the frame by scoring off an error that made it a four-run game.

That's all Hill would need, as he closed the door on one hit in the seventh to seal the win.

After allowing one earned run and an unearned tally in the two-run second inning, Hill blanked the Lions over the next five frames on four hits.

Noone had two hits in four at-bats in the nightcap win for the Evangels (12-12-1, 2-4 SAC).

The opening game saw the Evangels tie the score in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Wilson that scored Glasgow, only to have the walk-off, two-out RBI single by Threadgill give SAGU the win.

Matt Cruz was a perfect 3-of-3 at the plate for the Evangels in the first game, while Noone and Glasgow each drove in a run.

Martin Nolasco started the first game for MACU and struck out seven and allowed five runs, three earned in his 6.1 innings of work.

The Evangels and Lions will wrap up the three-game series with a single game tomorrow at noon in Waxahachie, Texas.
