Noone, Glasgow Lead Evangels to Series Clinching 8-1 Win at SAGU

Waxahachie, Texas -- Chevin Noone pitched eight solid innings and Logan Glasgow drove in three runs to lead the Mid-America Christian University Evangels to a victory in the rubber game of the series yesterday (Mar. 20) at the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Lions in Waxahachie, Texas.

The victory moves the Evangels above the .500 mark at 13-12-1 and is the latest in a season the Evangels have been above .500 since joining the NAIA in 2008.

The Evangels got all the runs they needed by exploding for six in the second inning.

Reggie Lindsey scored the first run when Matt Cruz was hit by a pitch and Daniel Thompson followed that with a two-run double that made it 3-0.

Noone then hit a sacrifice fly to score Cruz before Glasgow finished the inning with a two-run double that plated Thompson and Brandon Schoelkopf.

Noone more than made that stand up on the mound, following up his spectacular 15 strikeout effort against Manhattan Christian with a 12 strikeout performance against the Lions.  He pitched eight innings and allowed only one run on five hits with one walk.

The Evangels tacked on another run in the sixth when Schoelkopf was chased home on an RBI single by Glasgow.  Cruz then finished the scoring with a run-single in the ninth that scored Tanner Ward.

SAGU had gotten on the board in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly David Ancira that scored Preston Hornbeck.

Glagow was 2-of-5 at the plate on the day, while Thompson and Cruz each drove in two runs for the Evangels.

Wyatt Glasgow followed Noone in relief and pitched a scoreless ninth inning and struck out two.

The Evangels are next scheduled to host a pair of games next Tuesday (Mar. 24) at James Curtis Field.  MACU will face Southern Nazarene University at noon and then Friends University (Kan.) at 3 p.m.
