Baseball Evangels Split With Southern Nazarene and Friends to Equal Win Total From Last Season

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels defeated the NCAA D-II Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm 10-1 before falling 10-4 to the Friends University (Kan.) Falcons today (Mar. 24) at James Curtis Field.  The win gives the Evangels their 14th victory of the season, equaling their win total from the 2014 season.

SNU jumped on top with a run in the first inning before the Evangels answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Logan Glasgow and a run-scoring single from Chevin Noone.

Following RBI singles from Noone and Reggie Lindsey in the third, Lindsey capped a five-run fourth inning with a two-run single that broke the game open.

The big inning also featured an RBI double by A.J. Wilson and a sacrifice bunt by Logan Glasgow that scored Daniel Thompson.

Glasgow then finished the scoring output with a two out, solo homer in the bottom of the fifth.

The Evangels (14-13-1) got three hits apiece from Glasgow and Wilson, with Glasgow and Lindsey each driving in three runs.

Noone was also a perfect 2-of-2 at the plate for MACU with two runs scored.

After allowing one run in the first, starter Aaron Carroll settled in and blanked the Crimson Storm over his next four innings of work with four strikeouts. Zach Carley shut out SNU in the final two innings and struck out four.

In the second game of the day, Matt Burke hit an RBI single in the first and second innings to put the Falcons on top before Taylor Douglas and Steve Fisher each drove in a run in the fifth and sixth innings to increase Friends' lead to four runs.

Reggie Lindsey got the Evangels on the board with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth that plated Glasgow, but Burke delivered another RBI single and then scored on an RBI double by Garrett Heath to make it 6-1.

The Evangels trailed 8-2 in the bottom of the eighth before bases-loaded walks to Thompson and Brandon Schoelkopf cut the lead in half.  MACU actually brought the tying run to the plate, but a strikeout ended the threat.

Friends then added two runs in the ninth to put the game away.

Matt Cruz got hits in all three at-bats against the Falcons for the Evangels, while Glasgow and Noone each had two hits.

The Evangels will next resume Sooner Athletic Conference action by hosting a three-game series against Wayland Baptist University, starting with a twinbill Friday afternoon (Mar. 27) beginning at 1 p.m.
