Baseball Evangels Strike Late for 10-7 Win at Bacone

Muskogee, Okla. -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels scored two runs in the eighth inning to snap a 7-7 gridlock and went on to a 10-7 victory at the Bacone College Warriors today (Mar. 31) in Muskogee, Okla.  The win moves the Evangels to 15-16-1 on the season, already eclipsing last season's 14 win total and giving the program its most wins since the 2011 season.

Following an RBI triple by Angel Merced that keyed a three-run seventh inning that tied the score, the Evangels answered back when Brandon Schoelkopf led off the eighth with a walk and scored the eventual winning run on an RBI single from Logan Glasgow.

Daniel Thompson then scored the second run of the inning as A.J. Wilson grounded into a force out that made it 9-7.

The Evangels added an insurance run in the ninth on an RBI single by Thompson that plated Aaron Conway.

MACU had rallied from three runs down after a three-run first inning for Bacone.

The Evangels chipped away with two in the second and then tied the score with a run in the third.

It remained 3-3 until the Warriors (12-19) regained the lead with a run in the fifth.

Chevin Noone then homered to lead off the sixth to tie the score and an error led to two more runs crossing the plate that put the Evangels on top.

After a rocky first inning, Aaron Carroll settled in and lasted the full nine innings to get the win.  Carroll struck out a career-high 10 batters and allowed seven runs on nine hits.

Thompson sparked the Evangels' offensive attack by going 4-of-5, while Glasgow, Schoelkopf and Kody Jones each drove in two runs.

Zach Burns went 3-of-4 for the Warriors and Merced had three RBI.

The Evangels will next begin a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference series, starting by hosting a twinbill against St. Gregory's University Thursday afternoon (Apr. 2) at 1 p.m.
