OKLAHOMA CITY -- The No. 3-ranked Oklahoma City University Stars turned back the Mid-America Christian University Evangels 9-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference action today (Apr. 25) at Jim Wade Stadium on the OCU campus.
The Stars enjoyed a balanced offensive attack, receiving two hits from six hitters, including three RBI from Adonis Askew.
Askew hit a two-run double in a three-run second inning as the Stars jumped out to the early lead.
A bunt RBI single by Daniel Thompson and another RBI single from Logan Glasgow in the top of the third brought the Evangels within a run.
The Stars answered right back when Joe Lytle tripled to lead off the bottom of the third and scored on a two-run homer by Dylan Delso. Josh Halbert then hit a two-run homer later in the frame that put OCU up 7-2.
It was 8-2 in the fifth when Reggie Lindsey hit a lead-off homer in the top of the fifth for MACU.
After Askew singled home a run in the bottom of the fifth, Aaron Conway had an RBI groundout and Matt Cruz added an RBI single that made it a four-run game in the sixth, but that's as close as the Evangels could get.
Thompson had three hits for the Evangels (20-26-1, 5-17 SAC), while David Pope pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Wyatt Glasgow threw a scoreless ninth inning.
Holden Lyons, Ken Williams and Miguel Gonzalez combined to toss three scoreless innings out of the bullpen for the Stars (38-10, 19-2 SAC).
Weather permitting, the Evangels are next set to host USAO Monday afternoon (Apr. 27) in a makeup game at 3 p.m.
