Tate Powers No. 15 Evangels to Fifth Straight Win, 92-78 Over OCU

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Nick Tate's 18 points and career-high 14 rebounds led the No. 15-ranked Mid-America Christian University Evangels to their fifth straight win, a 92-78 over the Oklahoma City University Stars in Sooner Athletic Conference action tonight (Jan. 14) inside the Gaulke Activity Center.

OCU led by as much as seven in the first half and was still up four when Tate turned the tide with eight straight points that brought the Evangels into a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the night.

The Evangels pulled away from there and took a nine-point lead on a three-point play by Chris Runnels that made it 38-29.

MACU led 41-33 at the break and promptly increased the edge when Bryon Miller hit a pair of treys to key a 10-4 run to open the second half for a 49-37 lead.

When the Stars hung around and fought back within five, three straight points from Jason Nwisienyi and a three from Mililer pushed the lead back to 11 and then six straight from Devonse Reed gave the Evangels their biggest lead to that point of 81-67 with 4:25 left.

The Evangels then stretched the lead to 15 on two occasions and never allowed the margin to slip below double-digits the rest of the way.

In addition to Tate's double-double, Reed scored 17 and Miller added 15. Malcolm Mann dished out a game-high eight assists for the Evangels.

Lou Dunbar led the Stars (6-5, 3-2 SAC) with 21 points and Evan White had 17 points with a team-high five rebounds.

The Evangels (13-3, 3-1 SAC) controlled the boards to the tune of 47-28 overall and 17-9 on the offensive glass.

MACU will now go for their sixth straight victory Saturday afternoon (Jan. 16) at St. Gregory's University.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. in Shawnee, Okla.
