MACU Men's Basketball NAIA National Championship Ring Ceremony Set for Oct. 28

OKLAHOMA CITY — To commemorate a legendary season under Head Coach Josh Gamblin, Mid-America Christian University will honor the Evangel men's basketball team, winners of the 2015-2016 NAIA National Championship, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 inside the Gaulke Activity Center on the MACU campus in south Oklahoma City.

The ceremony will include the presentation of the basketball team's championship rings and the unveiling of the official 2015-2016 NAIA National Championship banner. Immediately following the ceremony, the Evangels will face off against Philander Smith College in their second home game of the season.

During the 2015-2016 season, Gamblin coached the Evangels to a 28-9 record and MACU's first ever national championship over the top-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) Tigers. Gamblin, the youngest coach to ever win a collegiate men's basketball championship, was named NAIA coach of the year for his role in the Evangels' success.

Since the men's basketball program officially formed in the 1970s, MACU has netted five national championships, 11 conference championships, 19 regional championships, 25 national tournament appearances and boasts 27 All-Americans.

This season, Gamblin and the Evangels plan to defend their national title with a starting roster including senior point guard Malcolm Mann, whose buzzer-beating shot secured the championship win, and senior forward Devonse Reed, named Chuck Taylor MVP of the tournament for his average of 24.4 points per game.
