OKLAHOMA CITY – For the first time since 2010, the Mid-America Christian University men's golf squad will compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) men's golf championship tournament, the organization has announced.
The Evangels received an at-large bid to the tourney that is set for Oct. 24-26 at Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
"Our golf team is very excited to compete in the NCCAA National Tournament," Dukes said. This is by far the best golf team we have had in my four years at MACU. "
Under Dukes, the Evangels have competed well in the fall season, posting top-five finishes in two of their three tournaments thus far.
In the opening tournament of the season, the Evangels shot a 304-304-608 to come in fifth place, five shots behind tourney host Southwestern Christian University at the SCU Invite.
Nathan Chadd was the highest finishing Evangel, coming in tied for 14th overall at 79-73-152.
The Evangels followed that up with a fifth-place showing at the NCCAA Central Regional tournament.
MACU shot a 307-319-308-934 as a team in the regional and were buoyed by Tyler Price's 75-76-73-224 effort that placed him seventh overall in the tourney.
Caleb Conn (75-79-74-228) was also solid, coming in tied for 12th overall.
"The fifth-place finish in the NCCAA Regional was our best team finish in this tournament since I have been coaching here. Furthermore, I do not think this team has reached its full potential yet so I am anxious to see how well we can compete against all of these good teams in the tournament. This experience will be a memory of a lifetime!"
