MAUMELLE, Ark. - The Mid-America Christian University men's golf team made history on Tuesday afternoon.

For the first time under head coach Allen Dukes, the Evangels posted back-to-back top five finishes in tournaments with at least 10 teams, as they wrapped up their time at the Central Baptist College Mustang Invitational with a 5th-place finish. The Evangels finished 31 strokes behind the Missouri Valley College Vikings (297-302; 599) who won the event. The host Central Baptist Mustangs finished in second one stroke back (309-291; 600) in second place, Missouri Baptist University (309-297; 606) took third, and Southwestern Christian University (311-314; 625) claimed the fourth spot, five strokes ahead of MACU (314-316; 630).

Kaden Upton followed up his opening round 73 with another solid scor on day two. The freshman shot a 4-over par 76, and he notched a pair of back-nine birdies on his way to a top-5 individual finish at 149. Isaac Maston and Gage Gibson each shot 78 on Tuesday, and Maston had five birdies in the round. Maston birdied the final two holes to finish in a tie for 22nd (78-78; 156), and Gibson finished tied for 27th (79-78; 157).

MACU finished the day with nine birdies, and the Evangels carded 19 red numbers in the two days of the event. The last time MACU placed fifth or better in consecutive tournaments with 10 or more teams was in September of 2010.

MACU will be back in action on the first weekend of April when they head to the Bethel College (Kan.) Spring Invitational.
