TULSA, Okla. -- The Oral Roberts University Golden Eagles defeated the Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels 98-63 tonight (Dec. 14) in an exhibition contest for MACU tonight at the Mabee Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Mikki Flores led all scorers with 23 points for the Lady Evangels along with six rebounds and three assists.
"I'm grateful to Coach (Misti) Cussen for inviting us to ORU," MACU head coach Hannah Moeller said.
"To play a team of the caliber that she has this year can only benefit us moving forward."
ORU, an NCAA D-I program out of the Summit League, scored the first 10 points of the game but the Lady Evangels rallied back behind two threes from Jamie Lamb and a trey each from Flores and Sarai Rodriguez to come within four at the 3:19 mark of the first quarter.
The Golden Eagles led 20-12 after one period and twice extended the lead to 18 in the second quarter before settling for a 51-36 lead at the break.
With the Lady Evangels hanging around, down 13 at the 7:05 mark of the third period, the Golden Eagles scored the next 15 points to put the game away.
Rodriguez scored 13 points for MACU (10-2) and Lamb also scored in double-figures with 10. D'Shala Powell led the Lady Evangels with eight rebounds.
Faith Ihim shot 9-of-11 to score 19 points and pace the Golden Eagles (7-4). Ihim also pulled down a game-high 14 boards. Lakota Beatty scored 18 and ORU got 12 points each from Ashley Beatty and Maria Martianez. Alexa Scott added 10 points.
ORU held a 46-37 edge in rebounding overall.
"I was pleased with our effort and energy," Moeller said. "We had several kids step up and play well. I was disappointed with our effort on the defensive glass, but ORU had a lot to do with that. Overall, I think there are several positives to take away from the game as we head back into conference play after the break."
The Lady Evangels will next play after the Christmas break on Dec. 31 when they will host Bethel College (Kan.). Tip-off is set for 3 pm inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
