OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Mid-America Christian University Evangels came back from three runs down in the first to defeat the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats 4-3 today (Feb. 12) in their home opener at James Curtis Field.
The Wildcats jumped on MACU starter Madison Spencer early as a two-run triple by Kevin Cali keyed the three-run first inning.
From that point, Spencer settled in nicely, blanking the Wildcats over the next 6 1/3 innings on four hits to get the win.
The Evangels got the bats going in the second inning when Reggie Lindsey hit a lead-off double and scored on a double by Aaron Conway.
With two outs and two runners in scoring position, Brandon Schoelkopf singled home Daxton Marley and Conway to tie the score.
The Evangels plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third when Riley Branum was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored Chevin Noone.
The Wildcats threatened with runners at the corners and one out in the eighth, but Zach Carley came on in relief of Spencer and got out of the jam with two consecutive strikeouts.
Wyatt Glasgow then entered for the ninth inning and worked around a pair of hits to pick up the save.
Aaron Conway went 2-of-4 at the plate for the Evangels with an RBI and a run scored.
The Evangels will now host the Wildcats in a doubleheader tomorrow (Feb. 13) starting at noon.
