Baseball Evangels Notch Series Win Over Culver-Stockton

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Junior Obeso pitched seven shutout innings to lift the Mid-America Christian University Evangels to a 5-1 victory over the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats in the second game of a doubleheader today (Feb. 13) at James Curtis Field.  The split gives the Evangels the series win after winning 4-3 in the series opener yesterday.

Obeso struck out seven and walked only two with five hits allowed.

The Evangels gave Obeso all the run support he would need early, scoring two runs in each of the first two innings.

Jerry McNew had a two-run double, while Chevin Noone, Colt Pickens and Trey Henley each drove in one run in the victory.

The Wildcats took the opening game of the twinbill 3-1 behind a solid effort from Luis Vilchez, who struck out seven and allowed only one hit during his 6 1/3 innings of work. Matt Hahn came on and got the final out to pick up the save for the Wildcats.

Mike Guglielmi put the Wildcats on top with a two-run double in the second and Culver-Stockton added another tally in the fourth.

Ryan Moseley drove in Daxton Marley in the bottom of the seventh to help the Evangels avoid the shutout.

The Evangels will next host Southwestern Oklahoma State University Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 16) at 2 p.m.
