Men's Basketball Rally Falls Just Short at Randall

MOORE, Okla. – For a fleeting moment on Saturday afternoon, the Mid-America Christian University men's basketball team thought they had rallied to send their game at Randall University into overtime. Instead, the Evangels had to swallow a bitter defeat.

MACU (1-1) got a game-tying 3-pointer from Justin Bogle with less than 10 seconds remaining, and Randall (1-1) missed a shot in their attempt to end the game, but an administrative technical foul against MACU with one second left gave Randall a chance to win it at the foul line, which they did 67-66.

Randall opened the first half on a 10-2 run, and the half didn't get much better from there for the Evangels. Just over five minutes into play, the Saints stretched their lead to double digits. With just less than four minutes to play, the margin was pushed to 20, and at intermission, MACU found themselves in a 19-point hole, trailing 40-21. The Evangels rallied though in the second half.

A 14-2 run in about three minutes cut the deficit to six at 44-38. Randall did answer and push the lead back to 14 with 12:37 remaining, but with 10 minutes left in the game, the Evangels trimmed the deficit to single digits for good. With 9:14 to play, MACU cut the deficit to 55-50, and with 5:08 to go, MACU surged in front on a made 3-pointer. Randall tied the game with 3:38 to play, and the Saints took a 5-point lead at the 2:48 mark. The MACU defense held Randall to an 0-for-4 finish down the stretch, and with just seconds remaining, Bogle buried a 3-pointer to tie the game at 66. After Randall missed their last ditch shot, however, MACU got the rebound, and tried to call a timeout they did not have, resulting in an administrative technical foul. The Saints made a free throw as a result, and they took the win 67-66.

MACU will be in action on Tuesday night in Weatherford, Oklahoma, playing their first of two exhibition games on the season. The Evangels will be battling the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State University at 7 p.m.
