OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University women's basketball team played only one game last week, but it was enough to allow the Lady Evangels to claim their first Sooner Athletic Conference player of the week honor of the season.
Alexis Shannon was named the SAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, beating out nominees from eight other teams to claim the award. The honor is her first of the season and of her MACU career.
Shannon, a 5-11 sophomore forward from Noblesville, Indiana, posted a double-double – the first of her career as a Lady Evangel in the Lady Evangels' 86-68 win over Graceland University (Iowa) in which MACU never trailed. She posted 31 points and hauled in 11 rebounds, while also dishing out four assists, in the contest, and helped the Lady Evangels improve to 3-1 on the season. She currently ranks 10th in the NAIA at 20.25 points per game, and she has the 11th highest scoring total in the NAIA with 81 points so far this season.
The Lady Evangels will be back in action this weekend on the road, heading to Point Lookout Missouri for the College of the Ozarks Coke Classic. MACU will battle the host Bobcats on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and they will wrap up the weekend against the Grand View University Vikings on Saturday at 1 p.m.
