Six Score in Double Figures as Men's Basketball Rolls Crowley's Ridge (Ark.)

PARAGOULD, Ark. – The Mid-America Christian University men's Basketball team wrapped up their 2017-18 non-conference schedule on Saturday afternoon, and the Evangels were dominant in their final non-league outing.

MACU (5-2) had six players score in double-figures, led by Therence Mayimba's 26-point effort, and they cruised past Crowley's Ridge College (0-7) 103-59.

MACU started slowly, and with 15:49 to play, the Pioneers held a 6-5 lead, but Cade Upshaw nailed a 3-pointer 16 second later, and MACU began to take over. MACU scored seven points in the span of 30 seconds moments later, as the Evangels launched themselves on a 19-0 run that put MACU ahead 24-6. The margin stabilized for much of the remainder of the period, but over the final two minutes, the Evangels put together a 7-0 run and at intermission, MACU led 47-23.

A 10-0 run early in the second stanza pushed MACU's lead to 61-28, and the rout was on. Upshaw made a 3-pointer with 9:29 remaining to push the lead to 81-40, and with 6:01 to go, Mayimba made another long range bucket to stretch the lead to 93-43 – the largest advantage of the game. The Pioneers trimmed only six points off the deficit from there, and at the final horn, MACU took the win 103-59.

Mayimba had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Zach Sawyer also posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. Upshaw and Jordan Rhodes each scored 14 in the game, and Justin Bogle and Keyshawn Perkins each added 10. Perkins also dished out a team-leading nine assists in the game.

MACU scorched the nets from the floor, making 39-of-68 (57.4%) of their field goal attempts in the game. They were also 15-for-32 (46.9%) from deep, though the Evangels did scuffle at the foul line, making only 10-of-17 (58.8%) charity tosses. MACU also held a 42-33 edge on the glass, and the Evangels dominated the enhanced scoring breakdowns – out-scoring the Pioneers 35-6 off turnovers, 44-32 in the paint, 13-4 on second chances, and 42-9 off the bench.

MACU will return home on November 30 to open Sooner Athletic Conference play. On that night, they will play host to the first SAC contest for Conference newcomer Central Christian College (4-1). The game is scheduled to tip off at 8 p.m.
