OKLAHOMA CITY – Twenty Years ago, Mid-America Bible College (now Mid-America Christian University) was in the middle of a historic season. Head Coach Willie Holley and the Evangels' men's basketball team completed a run to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II National Championship, and on Saturday, December 2, MACU will celebrate the 20th anniversary of that historic season.
The championship was the first National title in school history, and it capped off a season to remember. The historic title win over Kentucky Christian University came on the Evangels' home floor at the Gaulke Activity Center, capping off the inaugural season of competition in the Gaulke. The title kicked off a run of success that eventually led to the program making the move to the NAIA and NCCAA Division I levels.
The Evangels will honor the 20th anniversary of the Championship when their cross-town foes from Oklahoma City University comes to the Gaulke on December 2. The ceremony, which will honor players from the team as well as longtime head coach and Athletics Director Willie Holley, will take place at halftime of the men's game against the Stars, a game which will be a battle of top-25 teams in NAIA Division I and the Sooner Athletic Conference.
