OKLAHOMA CITY – The Mid-America Christian University women's basketball team earned a split of their two Sooner Athletic Conference games last week, and on Monday afternoon, the performance of one of the Lady Evangels was recognized for the second time this season.
Alexis Shannon was named the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, becoming the first player to earn a second such award in the SAC this year. The honor is the second of her career.
Shannon, a 5-10 sophomore forward from Noblesville, Indiana, took the SAC lead in scoring average with a pair of huge scoring efforts on the week. She began her week with a 32-point effort in a home loss to Southwestern Assemblies of God University, and she followed that up with a clutch performance in the Lady Evangels' victory at Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon. In the win over the Rams, Shannon scored 27 points and grabbed a team-leading 11 boards in the game. Her season average of 28.8 points per game currently ranks fourth in the NAIA.
The Lady Evangels will wrap up their 2017 schedule with a home tilt against Southwestern College (Kan.) (2-13) on December 30 at 3 p.m.
