Spencer Dominant Again in Evangels' 3-1 Win Over Kansas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian University senior pitcher Madison Spencer continued his stellar start to the 2017 season by throwing a complete game victory over the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, 3-1 today (Feb. 10) in the opener of a three-game series at James Curtis Field.

The Aurora, Colo. native also pushed his scoreless streak to start the year to 15 2/3 innings until giving up an unearned run with two outs in the ninth.

The scoreless streak by Spencer is the longest to begin a season and the third longest overall for the Evangels as an NAIA school.

Spencer blanked the Coyotes for the first 8 2/3 frames and struck out five against only one walk.

With a runner on second and the tying run at the plate in the ninth, Spencer induced a groundout to close out the win.

The Evangels got on the board in the bottom of the second when Chevin Noone singled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Jake White plated the Evangels' next two runs, scoring on a double by Aaron Davis in the fourth and then on an RBI single from Aaron Conway in the sixth.

Jacob Martinez went two-of-four at the plate in his debut for the Evangels (4-3), while Rex Campbell also had two hits for the Coyotes (2-3).

Brandon Wescher also pitched well for KWU, striking out nine and giving up two earned runs in his eight innings on the mound.

The Evangels and Coyotes will finish the series with a doubleheader tomorrow (Feb. 11) at noon.
