Baseball Evangels Swept by Kansas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes swept a twinbill against the Mid-America Christian University Evangels by scores of 21-3 and 16-6 today (Feb. 11) at James Curtis Field.

Each game, the Evangels jumped out to a lead in the first inning, only to have the Coyotes slug their way past.

The opening game saw the Evangels grab a 2-0 lead after the first frame, but KWU scored one in the second, two in the third and exploded for nine runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to break the game open.

In the nightcap, Jerry McNew hit a three-run homer in the first inning to put the Evangels up 3-1.

That was followed in the second with an RBI single by Colt Pickens to score Chevin Noone and a bases-loaded walk to McNew that plated Abdiel Quinones for a four-run MACU lead.

But like the first game, the Coyotes used two big innings to bust things open.

KWU scored six runs in the fifth and then seven more in the sixth to put it away.

The sixth inning by the Coyotes was finished off with a three-run double by Kelvin Brito and two-run homer from Mark Segat.

Aaron Davis doubled home Aaron Conway in the bottom of the seventh to round out the scoring for MACU.

Ryan Moseley and Jake White each had two hits in the second game for the Evangels.

Peyton Deiters went three-of-five with four RBIs to lead the Coyotes' attack.

The Evangels are next scheduled to host Oklahoma Wesleyan University Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 14) at 2 pm.
