OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian University junior guard Sarai Rodriguez and sophomore guard Mikki Flores have each been named to the All-Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball team, the league announced today (Feb. 28).
Rodriguez is a first-team selection, while Flores received a third-team nod.
Under first-year head coach Hannah Moeller, the duo has been instrumental in helping the program reach 19 wins this season for the first time since joining the NAIA.
"I am incredibly proud of Sarai and Mikki for achieving this special accomplishment!" Moeller said.
"They have a lot left in front of them, but this is a testament to the hard work they put in every day. I am excited for both of them to use this stepping stone for what is still ahead."
A native of Austin, Texas, Rodriguez leads the Evangels with 20.2 points per game this season. Her points per game average would be first for the Evangels as an NAIA program and is currently second in the SAC and third in the NAIA.
Rodriguez scored 15 points last Saturday against No. 7 Oklahoma City University to give her 546 points, setting the school single-season mark as an NAIA program. She has also hit a team-high 76 threes this season and ranks second on the team with 106 assists.
In her first season with the program, Flores has dished out a school single-season record (as an NAIA school) 165 assists. She is averaging 5.7 assists per game, which would rank second all-time since joining the NAIA and is good for third in the SAC and fifth in the NAIA.
Flores has also recorded a team-high 55 steals and is second on the team with 48 threes.
Rodriguez and Flores will lead the fourth-seeded Evangels into the SAC tourney quarterfinals tonight, where they will host fifth-seeded Texas Wesleyan University at 6 pm inside the Gaulke Activity Center.
