OKLAHOMA CITY – Mid-America Christian University senior guards Olajuwon Garner and Malcolm Mann have each earned a spot on the All-Sooner Athletic Conference men's basketball squad, the league announced today (Feb. 28).
Garner has consistently been one of the nation's top three-point marksmen this season, ranking second in the SAC and third in the NAIA in threes per game (3.4). He is also second in the SAC in three-point field-goal percentage (.464).
The .464 three-point percentage would rank first all-time in a single-season in school history for the Evangels. Garner has also hit 103 treys overall this year, the most in a single-season as an NAIA school and only four shy of tying the all-time single-season mark.
A native of Pittsburg, Calif., Garner also leads the Evangels in scoring this season with 15.1 points per game.
Following up a season that featured a school single-season record (as an NAIA school) 184 assists and hitting the game-winning shot in the Evangels' NAIA National Championship victory, Mann has recorded a team-high 4.9 assists per game that ranks second in the SAC. He has 330 career assists, which is fourth all-time as an NAIA school and his five assists per game is tied for first.
Mann is also scoring 9.1 points per game along with a team-best 30 steals on the season.
"They have both worked really hard and are very deserving!" MACU head coach Josh Gamblin said.
"Their desire to get better helped lead our group this season."
The Evangels are gearing up for a SAC quarterfinal matchup tonight at top-seeded Texas Wesleyan University. Tip-off is set for 7 pm in Ft. Worth, Texas. MACU won both meetings against TWU in the regular season.
