Rodriguez Named NCCAA Player of the Year

Greenville, SC – Mid-America Christian University junior guard Sarai Rodriguez has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Player of the Year, the organization has announced.

The honor also comes with a first-team NCCAA All-America nod for Rodriguez.

"Sarai had an incredible year and I am extremely proud of her and this special accomplishment," MACU head coach Hannah Moeller said.

"I believe beyond any doubt it was well-earned. She is a tireless worker who is committed to becoming better every day. I am sure it will be one among many special recognitions. I am proud of her and excited to see what still lies ahead for her in the program."

Rodriguez helped the Evangels to a program-best (as an NAIA school) 23 wins this season and their first NCCAA Central Regional Championship since the 2010-11 season.

Along the way, Rodriguez joined the 1,000 point club for her career, the most points in MACU's NAIA history.

The Austin, Texas native also finished the season with 674 points and 101 threes, both single-season highs for the Evangels since joining the NAIA.

Earlier this season, Rodriguez was chosen as the NCCAA Central Regional Player of the Year while also earning first-team All-Sooner Athletic Conference honors.

Rodriguez helped the Evangels to a 23-13 overall record and a fourth-place finish at the NCCAA National Tournament.
