Men's Golf Moves Up on Final Day of Fall Schedule

OKLAHOMA CITY - On the final day of their 2018 fall schedule, the Mid-America Christian University men's golf team teed off on a course at Gaillardia Country Club that was set up to challenge some of the best teams in the NAIA. After struggling a bit on day one, the Evangels rallied to move up the leaderboard in the final round of the Southern Plains Intercollegiate Championship.

MACU fired three rounds in the 70s and the Evangels moved past Southwestern College into eighth place on the final leaderboard in a tournament that featured three teams in the NAIA top-10. That team round of 316 was the sixth best team round of the day in a loaded field.

Isaac Maston shot a final round 77 to tie for MACU's best individual round of the tournament, and he finished in a tie for 31st at 235 (78-80-77). Austin Davis also finished in the top-40 in the tournament, carding a final round 78 and finishing in a 37th place tie with a score of 239 (84-77-78). Gage Gibson finished one stroke behing Davis, both on the day (79) and in the championship (240; 77-84-79) as he tied for 40th, and Kaden Upton (82) and Jake Reddington (86) each also competed in the tournament, finishing tied for 47th (247) and 64th (268), respectively.

The event was the final event for MACU in the fall portion of their schedule, but the Evangels will be back on the links in the spring as they work toward a good showing at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship.
