OKLAHOMA CITY - The Mid-America Christian University women's basketball team is off to a 5-0 start to the 2018-19 season, and junior forward Alexis Shannon has been a big part of the reason for that. On Monday, she garnered her first honors of the year after leading her team to a pair of neutral site wins at the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) Coke Classic.
Shannon was named both the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week and the National Christian College Athletic Association Student-Athlete of the Week. The honors are her first of the season, joining two SAC honors from her sophomore campaign.
Shannon, a 5-10 junior forward from Noblesville, Indiana, opened the weekend with her first double-double of the season. She scored a season high 25 points against the Bellevue University (Neb.) Bruins, and she added 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. In the game, she made 11-of-22 shots in the game, which the Evangels won 83-63. She followed that with a 17-point berformance in a win over the Cumberland University (Tenn.) Phoenix on Saturday. In that game, she grabbed five boards, and again had two assists and two steals.
