Alley, Price Lead Women's Basketball Past DCC

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Mid-America Christian University women's basketball came home for the only time in November on Monday night, and they re-kindled a series with the Dallas Christian College Crusaders. The Evangels got off to a fast start in the game, and they never looked back.

MACU (3-0) made 15-of-20 shots in the first quarter, and they outscored DCC (0-2) 35-5 in the period on their way to a 102-51 win.

Alexis Shannon scored the first bucket of the game on a fast break just over a minute into the contest, but just seconds later DCC's Trish Daily connected on a 3-pointer to give the Crusaders the 3-2 lead. MACU, though, bounced back quickly, and Jennah Coffman scored on another fast break to reclaim the lead for MACU and ignite a 16-0 run. Another 13-0 spurt pushed the Evangels lead to 31-4, and when the first quarter came to an end, MACU led 35-5.

The offensive barrage continued for the Evangels in the second frame, as MACU shot 52.9% (9-of-17) from the floor in the quarter. A 12-0 run late in the frame helped MACU push their lead all the way to 61-12, and at the intermission, MACU led 61-15. The second half was choppy, and the Evangels maintained their lead, though they did not add much to the margin. The teams each scored 20 points in the third quarter, and in the fourth frame, the lead reached a high mark of 54 points, as MACU coasted to a 102-51 win.

Five Evangels scored in double-figures, led by Jaidan Alley's 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting including 3-of-4 from long distance. Nevada Denton scored 16 in the game, Shannon and Coffman each added 14, and Darby Price chipped in the Evangels' first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Shaylan Coleman dished out eight assists and picked up five steals.

MACU made 37-of-64 (57.8%) from the field, and 12-of-25 (48%) from behind the 3-point line. The Evangels were also 16-for-23 (69.6%) from the charity stripe, and they out-rebounded the Crusaders 47-37.

MACU will hit the road for their first exhibition game of the season on Wednesday. MACU will head south to Denton, Texas to take on the NCAA Division I University of North Texas Mean Green (0-0) at 7 p.m.
