DENTON, Texas - The Mid-America Christian University women's basketball team stepped out of regular season play on Wednesday night, as they headed south for the second year in a row to take on the University of North Texas in an exhibition game. The Evangels were able to get some good looks at the bucket in the game, but in the end, not enough of those shots fell, and the Mean Green took the win.
MACU jumped on top early in the game, but the Evangels were unable to convert on enough of their chances in the game, and North Texas (1-0) took the win 82-35.
Loralei Siliga got the Evangels on the board first with a buck 1:16 into the game, and just under a minute later, Shaylan Coleman connected from long distance to push MACU's lead to 5-2. North Texas, however, responded with a 10-0 run to take a 12-5 lead, and a second 10-0 run helped the Mean Green establish the tone for the game. North Texas led the rest of the way, but the Evangels generated plenty of good looks in the game, they just could not get shots to fall. The Mean Green, meanwhile, were efficient enough on the offensive end, and UNT pulled away to the 82-35 win.
Coleman led the Evangels with nine points in the exhibition contest, Rebekah Wilson grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and Sydney Wycoff had four assists.
MACU will return to regular season play on Friday, November 16, when they head to the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) Coke Classic. The Evangels will open the classic on Friday against the Bellevue University (Neb.) Bruins (5-1) at 5:30 p.m.
