Coleman's Double-Double Leads Women's Basketball Past SAGU

OKLAHOMA CITY - Shaylan Coleman has been a tremendous addition to the Mid-America Christian University women's basketball team so far this season. On Thursday night, she played arguably her best game in a MACU uniform, and her team won comfortably as a result.

Coleman posted a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, and she added seven assists and four steals as MACU (7-1, 2-1 SAC) led wire-to-wire in a 97-72 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (5-4, 1-2 SAC).

Coleman got the Evangels on the board with a 3-pointer just 23 seconds into the game, and that ignited a 27-point first quarter from MACU. MACU quickly built a 16-point lead, and after one quarter of play, the Evangels led 27-14. The MACU offense was a tad sluggish in the second quarter, and SAGU's Lexi Rich - who finished the night with 30 points - began to lead her team back. The Lady Lions closed the gap to seven points late in the opening half, but at the break, MACU led 44-35.

Coleman knocked down a second 3-pointer early in the third quarter, and that was a part of a 10-0 run to open the second half that push MACU's lead to 19. The Lady Lions did not get closer than 11 points the rest of the night, and Ossyana Ozoani took over late in the game at the free throw line, making seven of her eight charity tosses in the second half as MACU cruised home with the 97-72 win.

Coleman was one of four Evangels in double figures, alond with Nevada Denton (17), Ozoani (13), and Jennah Coffman (13). Coffman also added eight rebounds as a part of a 53-rebound effort from MACU in the game.

The Evangels made 34 of 75  (45.3%) shots in the game, including a 9-for-25 (36%) from beyond the arc. The Evangels were also 20-for-26 (76.9%) from the foul line in the game.

MACU will wrap up their first semester SAC schedule on Saturday when they head south to Fort Worth, Texas to battle the Texas Wesleyan Rams (4-5, 2-1 SAC). The game is scheduled to tip off at 2 p.m.
