Sanchez Takes SAC, NCCAA Honors after Huge Weekend in Dallas

OKLAHOMA CITY – In his first two weeks in a Mid-America Christian University baseball uniform, junior first baseman Luis Sanchez has firmly entrenched himself in the heart of the Evangels order. On Monday afternoon, he claimed a pair of awards for his outstanding weekend in Dallas that helped the Evangels surge above the .500 mark for the season.

Sanchez was tabbed by the Sooner Athletic Conference as the first Baseball Player of the Week, and later in the afternoon, he was also named the first Baseball Fielder Student-Athlete of the Week by the National Christian College Athletic Association.

The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, had an incredible weekend, registering nine hits in 13 at bats over the four games on the weekend. He extended his hitting streak to five games and his on-base streak to seven. Beginning with his final two plate appearances in the Evangels' first game against Eastern New Mexico University, Sanchez had an incredible run of reaching base safely in nine straight plate appearances including eight straight at bats with a hit. As a part of that streak, he had a 4-for-4 game against Dallas Christian College, and a 3-for-3 effort against Hannibal-LaGrange University that included a double and a home run that proved to be the game winning RBI.
