Portorreal Shines Again as Baseball Takes Run-Rule Win over DCC

OKLAHOMA CITY – Keisy Portorreal has spent much of the 2018 season re-writing the Mid-America Christian University baseball record book. He was at it again on Friday, adding to two records and tying another.

Portorreal added to his single-season and career shutout records, tossing his fourth shutout of the season, and he tied the MACU record for single season pitching victories as MACU (19-10) blanked Dallas Christian College (1-19) 16-0.

DCC put two on in the first inning, but Portorreal struck out three in the frame, and after two more strikeouts from Kid K in the second inning, the Evangels staked him to a large lead.

Junior Aracena lofted a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Luis Sanchez, and two batters later, Raymond Rodriguez did the same to put MACU on top 2-0. Later in the inning, Antonio Dorado doubled home a pair, and he scored ahead of a Felix Martinez triple to cap a five-run inning as MACU seized a 5-0 lead.

Kevin Lentzner singled home Pichardo in the third frame, and in the fifth, MACU erupted again. Lentzner drove in two more with a double, and Martinez also had an RBI two-base hit, as the Evangels ran their lead to 11-0. A third five-run frame in the sixth added an exclamation point to the day, as MACU completed the rout of the Crusaders 16-0.

Portorreal (6-2) allowed only three hits and two walks, and he struck out 10 in earning the record tying victory. Andrew Torres (0-6) took the loss by allowing six runs – though only two were earned – on five hits and two walks in three innings.

Martinez lacked a homer for the cycle in the game, as he was 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Logan Gipson singled twice and knocked in a pair, Pichardo singled and doubled with three runs scored, Aracena singled twice and scored two, and Lentzner was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

MACU and DCC will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday with a double-header scheduled for Noon.
