Portorreal Earns Second SAC Pitcher of the Week Honor

OKLAHOMA CITY – For the Mid-America Christian University baseball team, their 2018 success has begun with junior Keisy Portorreal taking the ball to begin each weekend. The Evangels' right hander was honored again on Monday by the Sooner Athletic Conference, earning the nod as the Pitcher of the Week for the Second time in three weeks.

Portorreal earned the honor after setting a MACU record for pitching wins in a season, grabbing his seventh victory on the mound, and doing so against the NAIA #23 Wayland Baptist University Pioneers.

Portorreal, a 6-2 junior right hander from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, shut down the #23 Pioneers after yielding two runs in the top of the second inning. The Evangels' ace retired 13 of the last 14 men he faced, including the last seven in a row. The victory moved him to 7-2 on the season, and helped him set a new MACU record for victories in a year, breaking the previous mark of six, which had been done twice prior to this season. He has won three straight decisions, and seven of his last eight starts.
