Baseball Falls in Conclusion of Suspended Game vs. SCU

OKLAHOMA CITY – On Monday afternoon, the Mid-America Christian University baseball team took to the field in an unusual circumstance – the resumption of a suspended game. The Evangels headed back to Dolese Park to resume the second game of their series with the Southwestern Christian University Eagles, trailing 4-0 heading to the top of the third inning.

MACU (12-27, 6-14 SAC) plated six runs in the top of the sixth inning, but it was not enough to overcome their slow start, as SCU (25-12, 12-8 SAC) held on for a 9-6 win.

The Evangels turned the baseball over to Ben Donnell to resume the game, and SCU quickly added to their lead. A one out triple from Kevin Fabian gave SCU a 5-0 lead, and in the bottom of the fourth, SCU plated four more runs to take a 9-0 lead.

The Evangels woke up the offense in the top of the sixth frame, when Antonio Dorado ripped a one out double down the left field line. Diego Pichardo followed with an RBI single to get the Evangels on the board, and after a pop out, Luis Sanchez singled and Junior Aracena walked to load the bases with two outs. Raymond Rodriguez followed with an RBI base on balls, and MACU scored four runs on a pair of errors and a wild pitch with two outs, but Jose Perez was able to escape the inning with the lead intact at 9-6.

Jake White worked a clean sixth frame, and in the top of the seventh, MACU got the tying run to the plate, when Felix Martinez walked and Sanchez was hit by a pitch. Aracena stepped into the box and bounced one up the middle that was deflected by Perez to second to end the game on a 1-4-3 ground out, as SCU held on for the win, 9-6.

Victor Del Carmen (5-1) earned the win, throwing the first five innings of the game – including three innings on Monday. Del Carmen allowed only two hits and he struck out 10. Reid Wall (2-2) took the loss, allowing four runs – two earned – on three hits and two walks.

Dorado and Martinez doubled in the game; Pichardo, Sanchez, and Lentzner each singled; Pichardo and Rodriguez had RBIs; and Dorado, Pichardo, Sanchez, Aracena, Rodriguez, and Lentzner all scored runs.

The Evangels and Eagles will wrap up their series on Monday, April 16 with a nine-inning game at MACU. First Pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
