OKLAHOMA CITY – The U.C. Ferguson Classic is one of the most prestigious tournaments in NAIA golf, and once again the Mid-America Christian University men's golf team is among the 14 teams participating in the tournament. The Classic opened at Lincoln Park Golf Course's West Course on Tuesday with 36 holes in cloudy and wet conditions – conditions ideal for scoring and the scoreboard reflected that.
MACU shot respectable scores of 312 and 304 in the two rounds, but with the combination of the strength of the field and the receptive conditions, the Evangels sit 14th heading into the tournament's final round, scheduled for Wednesday. The tournament's leader in the clubhouse is the defending NAIA National Champion, Oklahoma City University at 546 (272-274). The Stars are 20 strokes clear of Missouri Valley College, who sit in second place at 566 (284-282). The rest of the top-five is comprised of #RV Bellevue University (Neb.) (568; 290-278), Murray State College (Okla.) (571; 296-275), and Kansas Wesleyan University (578; 294-284).
MACU had four golfers tie for 64th individually to pace the MACU effort. Isaac Maston recovered from a rough first round of 82 with a second round score of 73 to post a 155 for the 36 holes. Jake Reddington, Austin Davis, and Kaden Upton each shot rounds of 76 and 79 to tie Maston's 155 score; and Gage Gibson rounded out MACU's team lineup with a total of 157 (78-79). Wyatt Bonds finished tied for 78th individually with a score of 160 (82-78).
The tournament will conclude with an 18-hole final round on Wednesday morning.
